I just got my ELAC Uni-fi UB5 for my front left and right channels. I have an 11.2 channel system (no bouncy house speakers). I was going to get the emotiva a-300, but idk if that would be overkill. Should I just get the a-150 instead? I don't mind paying the extra 100 bucks for the a-300...

I don't see any A-150 on their website. Strange.

The A-300 is 150 w/ch, so unless you were really topping out the speakers and not running a subwoofer it's going to have plenty of headroom. Like a motor in a car, I don't know that anyone has ever regretted having a little extra power on hand. It'll run cooler than a taxed amp of half the power (if that's what an A-150 is.)

BTW, if you would ever upgrade to bigger/better speakers the amp will handle it easily.

I'm new at this so forgive me if I say something way off. These speakers are 4 ohm. They are rated for about 140 w/ch. The a-300 puts out about 300 w/ch @ 4 ohm. I know a little extra power never hurt anyone. I just didn't know if double the power was okay. I guess I could just always turn it down if needed. I do have two powered subs. You have a good point saying it's future proof. Thanks for the input.

P.S. - The A-150 is half the power of the A-300, but it's only $100 less.

That speaker 140W rating is pretty much useless and can safely be ignored.

The 4ohm rating is a much more useful spec to match to a proper amp.

A-300 would be fine. You didn't mention what receiver/pre-pro you have so, can't really comment on whether or not it would be necessary, though it certainly won't hurt.

I agree, unless you are extremely strapped for cash, the extra $100 is well spent on knowing you are not going to clip your amp (or send a clipped signal to your speakers) as long as you are sane with volume control.
