Amp for Sony SS-B1000 speakers

I bought a pair of Sony SS B1000 speakers as a gift. I was told that the television that they were for had every jack imaginable, but that wasn't true, so now I have to find a good amp that is compatible with these speakers. I don't know much about the subject, so I thought I would ask for suggestions. I would like to spend as close to $100 (US) as possible. Thanks for any advise.

Welcome to the forum!

There are many options available to you, but I want to try to narrow the field a bit with some questions:

1. What will the audio input to the amp be (i.e. what do you want to play through the speakers)? Is it just sound from the TV? If so, what type of connection will you be using - analog audio (red/white RCA jacks), or digital audio?

2. Do you want to control the volume through the amp, or just through the TV? If it's through the amp, do you want a remote control for that?

I think that an inexpensive receiver (either stereo or surround sound) would be a great way to go. There have been recommendations around here for that sort of thing, but I'd need to refresh my memory for good ones in the $100 range. I normally recommend the Onkyo TX-SR506 for a good budget receiver, but it runs between $150 and $200 depending on sales.

Thanks for your reply. The amp/receiver will use analog audio. I would prefer and amp over a receiver, for size and simplicity. The only thing that it will be used for is connecting the TV to these speakers.

I think the people who will be using this setup would prefer to control the volume through the TV only.

The speakers are 120 watt, 8 ohm.
