Existing receiver Yamaha RX-V2600

if you had the choice which would you prefer?

option 1
Rotel RB1080 200w x 2 = (200wpc front LR, leave the rest to the receiver)

option 2
Rotel RB 1080 200w x 2 plus Outlaw 2200 x 1 = (200wpc front LCR, leave the rest to the receiver)

option 3
Rotel RMB 1075 120w x 5 = (120wpc ALL seven channels)

usage is 80-90% HT 10-20% music

Your receiver should be able to power your surrounds with no problem.

I would get a Cinenova Grande 3 instead for your LCR and be done upgrading for life :)

i had a similar setup, albeit with different brand amps. i first had 3 audiosource amp one a's run in mono/bridged mode (for 200 wpc) for each of my 3 front speakers with my yamaha rxv2500 running my 2 surrounds. it always felt like my front 3 speakers were overpowering the output from my surrounds. it worked, but my surround effects seemed a little weaker than my front 3 speakers

then, i bought a B&K 225 wpc fo my left/gith mains. one of my audiosource amps runs my center and the other two audiosource amps run my surrounds. the output seems much more balanced like this. my surround effects are more on par with the power of my fronts.

i listened to rotel (the rmb-1095) and it seemed a little tinny to me, but there are so many factors at play that my experience may not (in fact is likely not) descriptive of the rotel amps in general. it could have been the speakers, or many other things causing this. however, just thought i'd mention it.

i guess when i started this reply, my goal was to suggest that, if at all possible, try to get amps all around for a fuller, richer experience and more balanced output.

also, it's my opinion that it's a good strategy to be very cost-conscience when buying amps for your surround speakers. if you only use your surrounds for movies, remember that they only do surround effects; for example, they are only going to give you the sensation of bullets flying by or planes flying across the soundstage, etc. thus, when i was in your position, i decided i did not want to spend big brand-name money on my surround amps. it just seemed like a waste to buy expensive amplification for the very occassional jet plane or other sound effects. if you plan to do surround music frequently, then that may warrant reconsideration.

and, finally, unless you have a really small room, i would always opt for more power than less, if your wallet can handle it. so, the rotel RMB-1075 at 125 wpc would not be one of my choices. in my opinion, it's not just volume you want when you buy separate amps, but also headroom for dynamic movie scenes. a more powerful amp is going to be more flexible in giving you a better, more surreal presentation of the soundtrack when it gets complex with big scenes, etc. jsut my opinion based on my experience with my amps, my speakers, my room, etc.. i have been very pleased with my 200 wpc amps.

found it ... but I didn't make that other thread. (the one without the poll)

tdeluce, those are about as high on the price list I can go (besides, I don't know any cinenova/grande suppliers here where I am)

gcmarshall, thanks for the input, will consider commercial amps too if I finally decide that: 1) looks dont matter 2) 12v trigger doesnt matter 3) fans arent noisy

in a related note gcmarshall, do you turn ON and OFF your amps everytime you listen to them? Have you left them on? if always on, do the fans stay on?

i leave my amps off when not in use. i don't know of they have fans, but assume they do. never heard them come on if they exist.

BTW, none of the amps i suggested are "commercial" amps, if by "commercial" you mean amps intended for professional music scenarios. B&K and audiosource are both sold retail for consumer use. audiosource can be had on amazon. B&K must be bought thru auth. retailers, usually only in store.

bump. to break down in simpler terms ...

option 1 = only the main left and right are important
option 2 = you need to balance the front LCR
option 3 = all channels should be balanced
