Ok, I just submitted my "Refund Inquiry" to Amazon.com via their email button on the linked pages above. Easy! Let's see how long it takes!

A few notes:

The items have to have been bought FROM Amazon.com, not from one of their sellers who sell THROUGH Amazon.com.

You can submit a Refund Inquiry as many times as the price drops within the 30 day period. So, if you bought an item to be sure you got one in time for a special occasion or holiday, you can then watch for 30 days to see if the price goes down.

Two items I bought from them were lower priced now. Apx $50 difference.

It Works!

Got this email from Amazon.com this morning after submitting my Refund Inquiry last night:

"I've checked your order and found that we now offer a
greater discount on these items than at the time you placed your
order. Since your purchase shipped within the past 30 days, I've requested
a refund of $48.18 to your credit card. This amount reflects the
difference between the price you were charged for the item and the
current discounted price. This refund should be processed in the
next few days and will appear as a credit on your next billing
statement."

Fast, painless....where's my Easy button?:D

One more important thing...

You don't even have to check for price drops. Use priceprotectr.com for free. They continually check for your specific item up to 30 days & email you each time the price drops! Plus, they have an ongoing list of current price drop deals going on.

Not just for Amazon.com either. Best Buy, Circuit City, Costco, Crutchfield, Fry's, Game Stop, J&R, Music 123, Radio Shack, Walmart...74 retailers in all.

That priceprotectr site seems like it would be really helpful. However, I'm curious about how much the site eventually learns about individuals and what it does with that information. The site TOS seems pretty straightforward, but I'm curious. In the retail game - as in everything else - knowledge is power. A site like this could quickly gain a lot of both.

What they do with the info behind the scenes is a question. However, up front the site does exactly what it says it will.

I just received a notification from them for a price drop on the same Toshiba HD DVD player I already submitted a refund inquiry for (no suprise on that item, since the WB announcement). It dropped another $30 down to $147.33. So, I submitted another refund request since I'm still within the original 30 days. I have until Jan 17th on this item.

If I hadn't recieved the priceprotectr notification, I probably wouldn't have checked the price again on my own. So in this case, I like the service they provide & will continue to use them, until their clandestine evil plans come to light:)

Sure enough, Amazon.com approved my "Refund Inquiry" request within 24 hours. Pretty big difference between $223 & $147.33 now.
