Amazon will put out their own streaming device

This has bad idea written all over it. There are plenty of really good streaming devices out there. If Amazon walls of its content from these devices, then everyone suffers. If it doesn't, it will have to compete on its own and may well not succeed. Personally I like devices that work with lots of different content.

I agree. Bleah. The Kindle HD tablet is a good value, though, if all you want to do is access Amazon content. (I don't like otherwise.) The latest BOM analysis I've seen for the HD indicates that Amazon is wrapping more than a few dollars bills around every one they ship.

How much money could there be in a streaming device when even a Roku and Apple TV cost only $99, and most people use an embedded streaming device and don't buy one?

I suspect that it will be a dirt cheap device sold at or below cost in order to rope people into renting more Amazon TV.

Yes, that is their plan I'm sure. I am sure the Kindle Fires have generated a lot more sales for them than the money they give up per unit. A STB could easily do much the same. Do we really need it? Not really, but if it is DIRT cheap, I will probably pick one up.
