I was looking to upgrade my amp from my Sony DN840 to a Denon avr-x4200. Possibly.. A Marantz sr7010. I recently purchased a Sony xbr65x930d 4K tv. I'm pushing 2 klipsch rf 28 fronts, 2 klipsch rb 61 rears and a klipsch 5.25 inch center. The 12 in klipsch sub I don't use unless for music or movies. Should I be looking at an amp and a "pre amp"??? I see people using the receiver to push the fronts and a separate pre amp for the rears and center !?!?! I am completely ignorant when it comes to this stuff. So all help is appreciated!!

Is the reciever you have now not pushing your speakers?

I answered about what you're missing on the terminology of amp/pre-amp in your other thread.

What are you needing in the way of features in the new avr? 4k or immersive type audio features or room correction or ? I'd think with the sensitivity of Klipsch speakers an avr alone would be adequate, but that would depend somewhat on your distance from the speakers and the spl you want to achieve. Consider it takes a doubling of amp power to gain merely 3dB spl when considering different amps....you might want to use an spl calculator like this to get an idea of how the various factors work together http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html

Seemed like you used the wrong terminologies. When you said pre amp you probably meant power amp. Assuming that's what you meant, I think it is better to use a power amp to power the fronts and the receiver to power the surrounds. If you go with either the Denon AVR-X4200W or Denon SR-7010, you most likely do not need to add a power amp. Those receivers can drive all 5 or even 7 channels Klipsch speakers that are typically highly sensitive and efficient.

Sorry power amp. I'm happy with the Sony I'm just looking too future proof by adding an amp with HDR as I'm looking to get a 4K blue ray for Christmas.

My speakers are only 5 feet away for fronts and maybe 15 feet for rears. Thanks for the advise and help!!!
