Parts Express is now re-coning speakers and if yo call a local music store, tehy'll probably tell you who does it in your area. Also, you can google 'speaker re-coning in xxxxx' to find others.

Woofers, or tweeters?

You might want to remove your phone number since it's listed.

Those speakers come from an era, when the West still knew how to make things for themselves, not from an age of throw it together largely wrong in the Far East.

I would no more trust Parts Express to restore those speakers properly than I would have them fly me to the moon and back.

I suspect those speakers were improperly repaired 10 years ago.

Those speakers have a sensitivity of 102 db 1 watt 1 meter and can produce enormous spl without burnout.

You need to have the drivers repaired by Great Plains Audio.

Your other option is to buy the parts from them and have the work done by someone experienced in vintage audio restoration.

Great Plains Audio is run by experienced ex Altec Lansing employees. They provide a wonderful service. They have re manufactured parts to original Altec Lansing specs. You won't get that from most reconing services. The speakers then won't sound right and fail.

Whenever I repair vintage Altec Lansing speakers, I always use parts supplied by Great Plains Audio. Nothing else will do.

Mark is correct. Great Plains Audio is the only place to get proper repair for any vintage Altec loudspeaker products. When Altec's Oklahoma factory closed, they sold off at auction a lot of the equipment for the manufacturing and repair of their products. GPA purchased a lot of the speaker department equipment, and a lot of the electronic equipment went to Ira Rostampour at IraTec in Yukon, OK. Just like GPA does for speakers, for old Altec amplifiers, no one does it better than Ira to get them back up and running at or beyond original factory specifications. In case any of these guy's websites aren't operational or up to date, let me know if you or anyone else needs their contact info. I have a significant amount of vintage Altec equipment, and I would never use anybody but these guys. These guys are friends of mine, so I'm biased, but it's the truth!

It's good to know this. I hate when a company like that is bought and sold off in parts to the highest bidder, just for pocket change.
