now being at an audio/video-phile website I kind of expect a negative response... but factoring in budget...

anyone have some feedback on thoughts with these systems??? say one of the $500~ 5.1 dvd/reciever in one combos??

pros/cons/ possible suggestions on specific units??

Onkyo has one, LS-500 I think. It was 5.1 or 6.1 and includes a 6 disc cd/dvd changer, all in one box for $500. You can get it as a package deal with speakers too.

If you want an all in one solution, I think it would be better than similar stuff from Sony, Panasonic, etc. Then again I like Onkyo in general, so I may be biased. :)

We're trying to get HTIBs in for review. To me though, it makes no sense to review a HTIB system with speakers that aren't designed to get down to 100Hz -6dB or so on the bottom end and have a relatively flat and listenable response through the rest of their range.

Once you start looking at the better HTIBs the price rapidly gets over the $1000 mark. And for that kind of money it is possible to put together a mini separates system.

Another intrinsic problem with DVD-receivers is that the DVD section still has mechanical parts which are much more prone to failure than the receiver section. So, though it takes 2 boxes instead of one, a separate receiver (Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo) $299 and DVD $100 mated to an excellent system like the Infinity TSS-750 can be had as a package for about $1000 and run most of the HTIBs into the dirt.

We'll still keep our ears peeled for good HTIBs though.

Does anyone have any news on the Boston Avidea 610 and a real review of the product? I am hunting in the $1200 range for a home theater solution, any ideas?
