Ok you audioholics:

Which listening mode do you prefer when playing normal stereo CD's only?

1) All channel stereo with or without center channel activated

OR

2) Prologic II Music. I noticed the sound is better when under this mode with Panorama turned ON. Stereo sound is expanded towards the surround speakers.

All responses appreciated.

For me, it's neither of those options. I listen to regular CDs through my two front speakers only. I guess I'm just old fashioned.

"normal" CD's? You mean stereo, right?

Why not just come on out and say it?

I prefer to play music with the number of channels that was provided to me via the source media. Anything else is guilding the lilly.

LOL. I'm with these guys... Neither. It is just a personal preference though, so listen to it however you like.

OK, I'm guilty. I do use Prologic II Music for 2.0 CD's sometimes.

My name is Michael, and I like Prologic II Music. Please don't flame me.

PLII does do a pretty decent job, but I tend to use it only for certain movies that are not DD/DTS.

It was kinda funny the other day I popped a CD (Eric Clapton Unplugged) into the Oppo the other day and I noticed the sound was a little "off". As I walked into the room, I could hear there was sound coming from the surrounds and I thought "That is a CD, not a hires disc..." I looked at the receiver and it had autodetected and set it to PLII. I quickly switched it back to stereo... When I'm cooking PLII doesn't sound as good down the hall in the kitchen. If I'm in the room it works, but I still typically don't use it.

For CD's I put my Yamaha in PureDirect mode and use my front mains. If I want more bass I put it in Staight mode to activate the sub.

Two channel stereo. If it is a good recording it will image as if the center channel is putting out music.

I used to prefer PLIIx ...

but ever since I felt that my center channel isn't as good as the left and right speakers, I started going stereo.

7 channel stereo. It uses all the amplifiers in my 7.1 channel receiver at once, thus taxing my avr to it's fullest potential.

Almost always switch down to two-channel. I've played around with both PLII and the proprietary Logic 7 on my H/K, but always seem to prefer old-fashioned stereo (okay...not totally old-fashioned; it's usually 2.1:eek: ).

Wasn't there a poll about this awhile back? Anyway, I do the PLIIx every once in a while just for fun, but way more often than not, I play stereo music in stereo, or rather in "pure direct", but since I'm using the multi-channel analog for CD playing (I get better sound from my Oppo than my receiver), I still get stuff sent to the subwoofer. So me happy.

cheers,
supervij

Depends. I try both. Often the 2 channel mix is best as 2 channels, but now and again, a 2 channel CD just opens up when you hit the DPL button. If I'm in the mood for surround music, stereo CDs can sound less contrived than some of the 5 channel SACDs that I have.

I use PLIIx for quite a few CDs. For more bass heavy music I prefer 2.0 in Pure Direct or 2.1 via stereo.

I hook all speakers up to the two main channels, including the sub, and rock out!
