Alien Anthology BD set issue with Oppo 83SE

Received my set yesterday and tried out the first 3 films. Unfortunately, Alien and Aliens both had playback issues with the Special Edition/Director's cut versions of the films. Both were incorrectly scaled, which would indiciate a decoding issue, not unlike the issue that I previously had with Max Payne. The Max Payne issue was corrected via firmware, so I expect this one will be able to be fixed as well. The weird thing is, the SE version of 3 seemed fine, as do the theatrical versions of the first two on the same discs. Something odd about how the SE versions are encoded I guess. I am using the 50-0424 public firmware, not the current beta firmware. I shot an email off to them to see what they say and as long as I have a copy of the 0424 firmware somewhere, I will probably try the beta FW tonight. (since they use the same firmware, that means this appies to the standard 83 as well I presume).

Glad I haven't bough it yet! I'll wait for a re-release, or just the first two on bluray.

I've been waiting for the set to go on sale. I hope there is a fix by then. In the mean time I have the first 2 on DVD.

Oppo responded so this appears to be a known issue. They said to start the movie as normal selecting the SE/Director's Cut; Once it starts, go to the top menu, choose play again and it will play in the correct aspect ratio. I tried it at lunch and it appeared to work fine with Alien. They said this will most likely be corrected in a future FW update.

I have the Quadrillogy also, but the PQ is far better on the BD set in just the hour or so that I was checking them out. If I didn't have the Amazon certs, I would have waited for the inevitable price drop as well.

$90 for four movies seems kind of pricey to me. If this was a Criterion release, I'd jump on that price. I think $50 is more fair so I'll wait until the price drops to $50 or lower.

It is 6 discs with about 50 hours of bonus material. The first 3 movies include both the theatrical and directors cuts, not sure about the 4th since I haven't even checked it out yet. That is a lot of stuff, but it IS pretty expensive.
