I was wondering if anyone else has any issue with USB mixers -or the Alesis IO|2.
Basically I am trying to determine if I am dealing with a driver issue or a hardware issue.
If you research USB Mixers you will find that they all use the ASIO driver to interface with 3rd party music software and if that is not available they load a windows driver wdmaud.drv.
The symptom is record timing issues and cache overflow that manifests itself as voices sounding like the chipmunks and snap crackle and popping noises.
The first recording is fine but the second one has the above issues that can be remedied by removing the USB and reinserting it.
I have talked with Alesis tech support and two competitor tech support departments and they all agree the issue will most likely appear with their hardware as well as Windows cannot handle audio well requiring the use of ASIO within the program.
The reason I cannot use ASIO is the program I am using (Captivate 2) with the Alesis IO|2 does not support thirdparty drivers and uses windows default.
If anyone that has any advise or experience with this issue I would appreciate any comments.
One thing I have not done is test the ASIO4ALL driver as this is for a corporate environment and the ASIO4ALL driver is not supported by any hardware or software I am using.
Another possible fix would be to use a mixer that is based on the "USB AUDIO CODEC" driver rather than the windows wdmaud.drv. But if I am to make another purchase I would like to understand the issue more complete and not have to make another return.
