Advise for my system: Monitor Audio BR5 or Q-Acoustics 1050

Hello guys. Sorry if I posted this query again, Anyhow, I compared the specifications of the two floorstanding speakers and they basically have the same spec expect for the following:

for Q-Acoustics 1050

Frequency response: 44Hz - 20 KHz
Sensitivity (2.83V@1 m): 92 dB

for Monitor Audio BR5

Frequency Response: 36 Hz - 30 KHz
Sensitivity (1W@1m): 90 dB

I've noticed that the Monitor Audio BR5 has a freq. range that is beyond 20KHz. From my understanding, audible sound (speech, fundamental freq. of musical instruments) is from 20Hz - 20 KHz band. Is it possible that a speaker to claim it has a frequency response that exceeds 20 KHz? (other speakers even claim to have an above 40KHz). There's no problem for me regarding the lower bass because I'm decided in purchasing a Velodyne CHT-12R which will take care of those lower bass frequencies.

As for the receiver, I am now choosing between an Onkyo TX-SR605 and a Marantz SR5001. Guys, if you have any opinion or suggestions, it would be an honor to hear from it. For a busy guy like me who ain't got much time going to stores to listening at those speakers, asking audiophiles (or perhaps acoustic engineers) will be my easiest bet.

Once again, thank you in advance!

Just because our ears can't hear past 20KHz

doesn't mean they cannot play that high. I'm guessing that most speakers can play higher than 20KHz but there is little value added publishing that in a spec becuase we can't hear that high.

I think you'll be making a BIG BIG mistake purchasing speakers on specs and peoples opinions. You need to at least listen to these two choices and make up your mind for yourself. Find the time to audition them or you may end regretting your purchase.

Thank you for your concern. Definitely, i will not spend something that hasn't got the approval of my eardrums and brainwaves. But still, i will find your opinions as valuable information.

With regards of the frequency response, I somehow agree to you. Don't you think that those brochures that claims that they have "above 20 Khz" range is kinda misleading?

As 3db said I wouldn't really focus too much on specs. Go out and listen to the speakers and see which you like more. The fact that a speaker plays above 20KHz could affect how the tweeter plays at other, audible, frequencies as it will be moving when the other wouldn't.

As far as receivers both are good. Most any receiver by a larger company will do a good job so choose that based on connectivity after you have decided on speakers as the speakers are a far more integral portion of the equation here.
