Hi
Could really use some expert advice here. i am considereing purchasing some Wharfedale opus 2 bookshelf speakers. I was also about to buy a Denon 1910 receiver but the advice was that this would not power these speakers sufficiently. Because the Denon has no Pre outs I cannot ad an Amp? So I would like to build a home theatre that is strong on the musical side but can be added to as well. Other thing is that I have a lot of music backed up on a hard drive so was hoping to be able to access this a lot of the time for playback.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

well I am slightly flexible on my budget. Obviously was initially hoping to keep my costs down but I would rather spend extra and get it right so that I can add and upgrade the system.I will probably stretch to $700 - $800 on the receiver side. The speakers will be costing aprox $800.
thanks for the response.

Some advice once given to me, "most likely if the mfg didn't add pre outs for adding an ext. amp, then chances are they didn't think much of its pre amp section". Now, if you slightly increase your budget from the 1910, you'll get a more stable receiver with all the bells & whistles. I'm still a Denon fanboy(I own a Yammy now:)) but imo...Yamaha or Pioneer offer more bang for the buck!

Bill......:)

I am happy to extend my budget, but the choices .....
Any recommendations ? I heard the pioneers run hot ! That is a concern.
I have also been looking at Marantz, they appear to have a lot of options for connectivity.

The Opus line are 6ohm speakers and may dip below that. How big is your room? Do you listen at loud level? I used a Pioneer 72txv (130wpc) with my Wharfedales for a while and then added the MPS-1. The speakers definately came alive with the external amp. What other features are important; HDMI, upscaling, multizone?

Is this 2-channel or HT?

living Room is 24 x15. I do like to turn up the level of my music, but I am interested in hearing good quality reproduction. ( especially now I am moving to a detached house)! I figured that these type of speakers would require an extra amp to really produce as you stated.
It will be 2- channel to begin with due to budget but I will want to add in the future for good HT as well. HDMI is a must now, multi zone would be an added bonus and I also see that some manufacturers have made a point of adding is it firmware? for compressed files. Is this really any good? I realise you will lose quality by not using CD's but for convenience I have ripped all of my music on to a hard drive as well for safe keeping.
Thanks for the feedback on this.
