Hi, I'm hoping that I can get some answers :p

First I'll tell you what I want.
A media server
A reciever that connects everything
To be able to play/charge my ipod through the receiver and hopefully be able to change song via remote.

I have.
A pc (ready to be turned into a media server, don't worry I can do that bit)
Logitech Z 5500 speakers.

The Problem.
What receiver to buy ~$500 budget.
I have no idea how I would be able to connect the 5500's sub to the new receiver.
I will be looking at getting a DIY sub in the future.

Any advice or alternative solution would be appreciated.

Yamaha sells receivers that work with Ipods. You could always check ebay for used or refurbished products. You may need to part with the computer speakers you have for the setup though. You can always sell them if you don't need them for the computer.

As for the media server, there are many devices, what are you trying to accomplish. You could go with the WDTV live (my favorite) popcorn hour, Xbox 360, PS3, etc. This net top device can receive your content from your server then direct it to your receiver and/or display.
