Hey everyone, im new to this forum and dont really know my way around very well yet so sorry in advance if this is a pointless topic
was just wondering if i could get some advice on what receiver to buy im looking to spend around $1000 - $2000 on a reasonable quality amp so far i have looked at:
Denon AVR-2309
Onkyo TX-SR706
Yamaha RX-V863
it will be hooked up to the klipsch f-1 package (i realise some people dislike these speakers for various reasons on being to harsh or tinny, but it was what was in my price range, as they were on sale, and i have to say im really impressed with them)
also if there are any other amps i should be looking at in this price range to get the best quality out of these speakers please let me know as i need as much help as i can get with this topic.
thanks in advance, Tim. :)

First, never aplogize for your speaker choice. If you like them and are happy with them, then thats all thats count. Congrads on your purchase. :)

Your speakers are very efficient and all receivers that are on your list have more than enough power to drive them to ear bleeding levels. What it comes down to for you I think is ease of use, features that work best for you and ease of use.

Ooops I goofed. I repeated myself accidently.. ease of use, features that work best and yiu feel are best for you and of course budget. Nothing screams louder than "buy me" if its a great deal.

If upscaling is not a concern to you I would take a look at the lower model RX-V663. The Onkyo TX-SR606 still has upscaling and many of the same features that the 706 does, and will still be more than adequate to power those Klipsch to stupid levels of output.:D

thanks seth!
ill definetly look into those receivers, honestly though i would love to have the upscaling and you say the onkyo tx-sr606 has that feature, i dont know to much about onkyo tbh as i tend to like the denon range, have you had any personal experience with Onkyo? and if so would you recommend it
cheers

Also as im not actually very old (price becomes slight issue) if people have suggestions even just over $1000 (australian money) it would be alot more realistic then say the onkyo tx-sr706 at $1999 (could save for it but its probably overkill for my speakers anyway) so all suggestions at a good price point (still want good quality though and the upscaling feature would be nice aswell but feel free to give me any opinions or recommend any other amps because even though i would like upscaliing it is something i could live without)
all help aand advice is appreciated
cheers again

I don't have any personal experience with that particular model, but receivers in the same class aren't going to sound different unless one has a significantly superior or inferior amplifier in it. Companies like Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, Yamaha, and Pioneer try to stay fairly competitive. I would also add the Pioneer VSX-1018, possibly the most powerful option in your price range. Depending on it's availability in AU it might be proportionally more cost effective. I am uncertain if that one has upscaling though.

You will certainly be able to find a quality AVR in your price range....especially given how efficient your speakers are. But I would caution you to look at other brands aside from the Onkyo as I have been seeing more and more posts and many forums with buyers having problems with the *06 line....several on the 706 model in particular. You should be able to find some aggressive prices on Denon and Yamaha which, in my opinion, are higher quality, more reliable AVRs.

I haven't read much about the Quality Control on the *06 line, but I am very dissapointed in the clear downgrade from the *05 line. Honestly I see nothing new and improved about the *06 line over their predecesors, other than cost. They use smaller amps in particular models, overlly sensitive protection circuitry (more in trend with previous Onkyos), and they also used lesser quality DACs in cross-ref models. The *05 series is legendary, I have no idea what caused them to cut it off so abrubtly.

I agree completely...I would take any of the *05 models over the supposed updated and upgraded *06 line...don't understand how Onkyo could go through with such a move, but that is corporate wisdom for you...:confused:
