i currently have an Onkyo TXSR705 receiver with an Emotiva amplifier UPA-7 and have a 7.1 configuration with Klipsch speakers. My rt and left speakers are bookshelves RB -51. I would like to replace. those with some. more. powerful floorstanding speakers. My prefence use of the system is for music concerts and movies. i have been looking into Martin Logan Electromotion ESL or Polk Audio Rti-A9's . Budget is $1,500 to $2 ,000. Any advice....

If you have a 7.1 system and you want to replace the front left/right you will want your new speakers to match you center. So you can either upgrade in the Klipsh line (assuming your center is a klipsch), or replace the center as well.

For Polks I would choose the LSi over Rti, but that's just my opinion. I'd also buy through Polk's Ebay store.

ML's Electrostatics sound very nice, but they need to be out in the room, more so I think than most speakers.

Plan for the future. Do it right so that you won't have to change later.

I would just get two Philharmonic 2 speakers for $2,000.

Then later on in time, add the Philharmonic center & bookshelf speakers, which I believe Dennis Murphy will develop.

Accurate serious audiophile speakers. That's what I'm talking about.:D

BTW I've used my Salon2 as L/R + KEF as Center & Surrounds. I've also used my Orion as L/R + KEF as Center & Surrounds. Sounds excellent as long as all the speakers are level matched.

Add KEF and the PSB ImagineT or Image T6s to your audition list. All of them have very flat frequency response across the most critical of the audio spectrum.

I agree 3db, especially the T6's, these can be had at either Saturday Audio Exchange or DMC-Electronics, email them for the best price on new or B-stock T6's delivered, they are authorized PSB dealers. I got an offer from DMC on four Image B6's new delivered for $798. They are some good folks to deal with if your looking for PSB speakers.

Has anyone even listened to the Philharmonic speakers yet? I've browsed multiple forums and haven't found anyone who has received them yet.

So your telling the OP to buy speakers that are just getting out there as of this week with no third party testing and telling him that there MIGHT be matching center and bookshelfs?

Glad they could help you narrow it down. Now it's up to your ears to make the final decision. Go listen to 'em.

Would you choose your spouse based entirely on the opinion of others?

That would depend on how many people "listened" to her before me.:p

to the OP:
As mentioned before, the matching of the center to the mains is important.
You'll want to upgrade the center at some point to match the mains.
Some thing to keep in mind as far as your budget is concerned.
