Advice on speaker-receiver matching

I am very much a newbie to quality audio equipment. I have been planning to build a system for years, but haven't had the time/cash to devote to it. I got a good deal on a Denon AVR-3313ci and decided it was time to start. I had some old Boston Acoustics speakers in the attic and set up my new "system." The BA speakers are much better than my TV speakers, but obviously leave a lot to be desired.

Is there a reason to temper a speaker purchase to fit a receiver? can you outclass your receiver with a speaker purchase? I don't think I will be spending a fortune on speakers, but if I am considering a pair of B&W CM5's as my mains with a CMC 2 center and an HSU VTF-3 MK4 sub. I am going to add each piece over the next year or so and I feel these components fit my budget, but I am wondering if I should have splurged a little more for a better receiver.

I will be watching more movies than listening to music.

Comments? Suggestions?

Thanks!

The Denon, as far as I can tell, is almost identical to the Marantz pre-amp model which costs even more. There is no reason to spend more on a product that already has solid quality. I mean, Denon sucks for their Internet stuff, but for just playing and amplifying your audio, it does a great job. If you want MORE from it, it is the lowest level Denon model that offers 7.1 audio pre-outs so if you do want 'more' from it, you can add external amplfiiers as approriate. Can you outclass it with certain speakers... Sure, and you may have speakers which want more power, but at least with the preouts, you can get from here to there.
