Advice on Rcvr/Amp for new setup

Hey Guys,
I'm looking for advice on a receiver and/or amp for a new home theater setup, and if I currently need both. I have a Sony LCD w/ HDMI and Sony PS3 with a set of Paradigm Studio 40 v.4 for fronts on the way. This setup currently has no receiver or amp. The room is approx 16x14 with a large opening to the kitchen/dining area on one side. Seating distance is approx 10-12 feet from TV/speakers. Budget is around 1500 for a rcvr/amp. Plan to get a sub in the near future and do not plan on rear/surround speakers currently. This system is mainly used for movies and music.

I would like to drive the Paradigm's to their full potential. However, I'm not sure if going with just a high end receiver, like the Denon 3808, would provide enough juice. Right now do I need a 2-channel amp in addition, or is this something I will only need once I upgrade to a center and surrounds?
