Advice on Pinnacle speakers

Pinnacle has a sale periodically on Woot. In the current sale, one choice is their flagship speaker, the BD 2500.

I can't find reviews anywhere. But they seem to have generally well reviewed products.

I am not sure if prices are allowed here so I'll avoid that - but they're 75% off list, estimated over half of the price typically paid.

But they're still a pretty major investment.

It's anathema here, but I'm not familiar with the speaker market, and there are sold without hearing them. As the representative says, he understands that's not ideal but is part of the low price.

I did that before - bought a 65" TV for a great pice without seeing it and it worked out well.

I previously bought some less expensive speakers - Polk 70/60/50 - and haven't hooked them up yet. They're for a room around 14x 19, with a 5x6 corner walled.

I'm not sure if they'd be 'great ' and I wouldn't get that much benefit from the 800% more expensive speakers, or if I'd really be glad I got them.(For use with a Pioneer VSX-1120-K).

So, any advice as the sale is over in hours, would be helpful.Between saving money I shouldn't really spend and a chance for a possibly great deal I'll be glad to have.

With no reply before the sale ended, I held off. But I'd like to hear info on the speakers as I might look at them later.

A buddy has one of the flagship center channels and it is a pretty solid sounding speaker. He's had it for a long time even though he switched to some different mains. That said, would it be on my list of speakers to own? Probably not.

Polk for me it depends: If they are the bottom lines, they're not even worth the time of day. When you get to the RTiA line though, they're not bad.

What might be worth your time is to provide a budget and what you're after, because it isn't like these are your only speaker choices.

For the record, I have a pair of Polk Monitor70 II and they aren't BAD. Granted, I'm getting my new Arx tomorrow and I'm sure I will vastly prefer them over the Polks, but if you got them for a steal, they will tide you over until you decide to drop some dough on a better setup. Some people don't like them at all, but I will say, not having heard a much better system, they're okay.

Speakers are an individual preference, so listening to them is the key, and there's plenty to listen to out there.

I don't think the Pinnacle speaker is a gauge for the bd 2500's though, those are a lot more expensive naturally and a very different speaker.

Listening to them is useful, but I can't do that, and don't know speakers well enough for comparison anyway.

This was more just a chance of Woot sometimes having some really good deals, an a chance to get $8000/pair MSRP speakers 75 off, if it's a good chance for a great deal.

I don't have a specific budget, but was considering talking myself into buying these if they're that great deal. Otherwise, I can just hook up the polks - which are series 1 50's, 60's, and 70's. I shouldn't really be out shopping for higher priced stuff except to consider a great deal. It is hard for a casual buyer when so many items are similarly reviewed as great though.

This was how I got my 65" TV - I wasn't in the market, but Woot had one for$2000 when others were over $5000 like 5 or 6 years ago, and that went well.

You'll be hard pressed to find truly bad reviews of a product except on forums. You can't use MSRP to judge a speaker's value either (or the 75% off thing either), because if you don't know what it sounds like at all, it's even harder to say that you will like it more than what you've got. I'd hold off, and if you really want to upgrade, I'd do some auditioning first.

Ya, and while the products of this company generally get good comments, I can't find a single review of these speakers - they apparently typically sell to home installers who charge about $6k/pair.

That's the tradeoff - get less discount in the normal purchasing of listening and picking, or take a chance on a bigger discount - I don't think I'm likely to get speakers nearly this nice without the incentive of the great deal.

The discount seemed legit, comparing other speakers in the sale did look like over 50% less than the best 'discount' prices I could find on other sites.

On another issue - any idea why I have such a hard time typing on this forum? It loses about every third character I type. When I tried to fix a couple typos that resulted, the save button with the fixes wouldn't save the edits.

Even typing slowly still gets lost chars, but fewer. No other site has this issue.

I have first hand experience with a few different Pinnacle subwoofers, so I do have some idea of what they make. They've always struck me as solid products, but their price was not commensurate with what you got IMHO.

If those speaker are truly "selling" for 8k a pair, and that's not merely some woot BS, than the first word that comes to mind for me is preposterous. For 8 grand I can think of far better speakers. Even for the 75% off price, which is still 2k, I can conjure up a lot of potential options.

This is what I was getting at. They claim their MSRP is high to convince you that the "discounted" price is a good deal, when in fact, it is still a price at which they make a profit at.

Even with Bic speakers and subwoofers.

The Pinnacle looks in reality, to be around the $1500 - $2000 a pair retail list.
