I am trying to figure out the best way to hook up an XPA-5 to denon 3805, I am new to this kind of stuff so bear with me, it appears that my preouts are analog only is there another way to go about this, and does it mean that any digital signal going to amp will be analog. there may be other options with the receiver? I have been powering my LSI-15 with denon and have found it lacking.
Advice would be appreciated.

Analog is the only way to go, dude.

All preamp outs are analog. Why? All power amps have only analog inputs.

And, any digital signals have already been converted to analog by that point.

Unless there's something lacking in your sound that additional raw power will cure, you might start looking at those speakers for what's missing.

denon 3805

From what I have been reading the lsi-15 are power hungry and are 4 ohm speakers, the music quality is Ok at lower volumes but speakers sound restrained, These are new speakers for me but have heard them before and was impressed I believe the denon only puts out 120 watts or so per channel, and I am running 5 channels so I dont know what is really making it to the speakers, and I have heard that most AVR'S struggle to push 4 ohm speakers. I am hoping denon is adequate for my system for now anyway
Thanks for info on analog, I have alot to learn.

an XPA-5 may or may not help. The question is one of

"Is my amplifier lacking control"
vs
"Are my speakers lacking detail and dynamic capability"

FWIW you might want to look into something cheaper, like an XPA-3 and let your receiver handle the surrounds.

My gut tells me it's the speakers and not the amplifier but it's tough to say without an impedance graph of the Polks and bench tests of the denon.
