My knowledge of home theater equipment is close to nil and I'd appreciate a recommendation of a Pre/Pro for under a grand new or used that is of excellent reliability and build quality. This will be for a high end home theater that doubles for a music system. TIA

What kind of amp are you using? How many speakers? What equipment will be connected?
We need a good bit of information to be able to give some opinions on this subject.

I would suggest considering a Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver and using it as a Pre/Pro. I did an install with this unit and got stellar results. The preamp section of this receiver is very good, GUI is a nice interface, YPAO is great for distance and level calibrations, but I stress caution with the room EQ. You can use some of the internal amps to power a second zone.

Caution? Should I not use the PEQ on my 1400? Can you elaborate?

Thanks much Gene. That's exactly perfect!

The results of most auto eq systems such as YPAO or MCAA can be unpredictable and at times lower not raise fidelity of your system. I would suggest trying it in and out to see which your ears prefer.

I definitely prefer the sound with the PEQ. I have read where people get different results ever time. Mine stay close to exact. Just wanted to be sure it was safe for the speakers. Don't want something to be tweeked too much!
