I'm quite out of my element with this audio need, and am hoping that I can find some great tips here.
Here's the need:
1. Output will be a Mac running audio via a website (i.e. not iTunes)
2. Room is about 3,000 square feet - quite large.
3. There will be either 1 or 2 Airport Express hubs running WiFi.
4. Mac also has bluetooth capabilities.
5. Speakers must be wireless. They can be wall-mounted or floor-mounted.
6. Cost is a consideration - limited budget.
7. Preference is for signal to remain digital at all times (as opposed to some wireless systems that convert to analog then back to digital).
As far as I can tell, I have three basic options:
1. Attach a transmitter via USB or audio-out from Mac, with receiving speakers located around the room.
2. Plug speakers into Airport Express base stations. Use the Airfoil software to allow computer audio to stream to the WiFi network.
3. Use Bluetooth enabled wireless speakers.
In all my research so far, I'm mainly just finding "computer speakers" which really don't seem to fit the bill for a 3,000 sq. ft. space. The Bluetooth option seems great, but I've heard that the signal can go in and out with some models, and I think range will be an issue.
Any recommendations or advice would be gratefully appreciated!
All best,
Mark
