Advice needed for adding Amp to HT set-up.

Hello, I hope someone can help with this. I have a Yamaha 1400, and I run it in a 7.1 set-up. I have Boston Acoustics VR1 fronts, with VRX speakers all the way around. The front speakers are rated at 93db for sensitivity. They are rated at 15 to 250 watt power handling. They are bi-amp capable and I am thinking of going that way. When I listen to 2 channel stereo, the reciever seems to be enough, and I am happy with the sound. I like it in 5.1 mode also. When I strech it out to 7.1, I feel like I am at the outer limits of the amp in the reciever. I don't feel that this reciever has the power supply to give this receiver the headroom to run my speakers in a 7.1 setup. I want to remedy this with a separate amp. I am getting a great deal on a 3 channel 125wpc B&K amp. To start with my plan is to add this amp to power the fronts and center. My next move will happen later, but I want to get a matching 125wpc 2 channel B&K to fill out the sytem and make DVD-A better. I plan to use the reciever to run the back surround speakers. I want to know if this is a reasonable approach. The other question I have pertains to me immediately. I am thinking of running the front speakers with the B&K at the bottom end, and bi-amping the top end with the Yamaha's front speaker out. That would have the Yamaha driving the four surrounds and the high end of the front speakers. The alternative would be to just run the front and center speakers with the B&K, leaving the 4 surround channels to the Yamaha. I think the yamaha itself would be more than sufficent and have the headroom to be dynamic for just thes speakers for now. Will adding the top end of the fron speakers take too much from that. I know onw of the problems with many receivers, and Yamaha especially is that they rate the power output very generously in their recievers. This really gets to be a problem when you utilize all the channels. What would any of you do with the options and equipment I have to play with. I will have the amp in my hand in 2 days, so it will be time to start playing with it.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Go ahead & try it both ways. I have the feeling, though, that you won't be happy biamping the setup that way. You're creating such a mismatch of input power to the speakers that it probably won't sound all that good. Probably a waste of the B&K power too. Let us know what you find out.
