Advice needed DVD Player for Loewe Aconda 30

Hello. First time poster here. I would like some advice from this group if you would.
I have a Loewe Direct View 30 Aconda TV.
I connect to my TV using the component ouputs from the DVD player. I purchased a replacement for my old Toshiba 2109 which died with a Sony 657P Progressive player. When I switch the progressive switch on the player the TV becomes split screen! Like a PIP deal. So I do my research and find the TV I own has its own line doubler which means I cannot use a progresssive DVD player and take advantage of the Faroudja chips that everyone raves about. The Aconda has an input for a 480 DVD player but it can only go in via VGA input. There doesn't seem to be many players that have this option.
So I am looking for the best DVD player for image, (Sound is secondary to me) that will be compatible with this TV. I want to spend in the $200-400 range but may go higher if need be.
Any ideas for my "predicament"?
TIA.

My Loewe Articos came with an adapter to convert the VGA to DVI. I have a Denon 3910 connected to that with excellent results.

So the only way to use a Progressive DVD Player would be to go through the VGA input? Because I think that if I just use the component input the line doubler kicks in and that is what is causing the incompatability issues.
