hi all, im super new to this HT things, n im looking for the best budget 5.1 speakers system.
my living area is 14ft x 12ft with height of 12ft.
as for receivers, am just getting an entry level onkyo/pioneer/yamaha.
my main concern is the speakers.

i've tried surfing here n there, read reviews, n more reviews, n also read forums.
too bad i couldnt get to audition or hear them at my place as they r not available here easily.

so, it would be great help if some of u can enlighten me with your experience and guides to getting one. im planning to get a fren of mine to either buy them back from the states or UK.

so far.. i've just managed to see these 2 models in the net (<$400) :(

1) tannoy sfx 5.1
2) DCM cinema2

or any others that is recommended.??
thanks..

from far away..

Best is a very relative term and requires listening. For less than 400 dollars it is difficult to put any kind of 5.1 system together.

I suggest you start with a nice pair of fronts. Why not get 2 200 dollar speakers rather than 5 cheap ones with a cheap sub that all underperform.

I sugget a pair of KEF iQ5s from accessories4less or a pair of Primus towers.

If you want bookshelves look at SVS, and the Behringer 2030p I think is supposed to be decent. iQ3s are also very nice. Kef is a british brand so if you are going back and forth you will be able to match them in either country easily.

thanks for your reply. no doubt its difficult to get a nice 5.1 altogether.
n getting a tower as a front, is of cos the better option, i think.
but thinking of carrying a pair of that to the airport, checking in..etc..
well, definitely a no no for my fren to do that. haha.
and i guess never ending amount of $$$ coming out from my pocket.

well..the list of shopping goes on u know. centre speakers, subs.. etc

therefore, getting the 'best' out of the small satellite sys will be the better option for me. since its easier for my friend to bring them back.
of cos not forgetting wat u have just said.. underperform.
but wat to do, no choice bro.. :D
tats y im just willing to fork out tat much...

but i do hope to get your opinion or anyone else from here.
1 simple system..solve my problem :)

You can get a 5.1 system for under $400. Here's a decent system for a smaller room. It's $419.

http://store.audioholics.com/product/2297/66234/emp-htp-551-5-1-speaker-system

14x14x12 is only 2,352 cubic ft. That is small. That sub should be fine unless your room has an uncloseable opening into another room.

Please don't get your receiver, until you at least get your mains. You need to make sure the receiver has enough power for the mains.

Almost forgot...

Best choice evah!

Just get this it's cheaper than American prices and your friend won't have to deal with taking it back.

Use that site to pick up your stuff. They appear to have pretty good deals.

Also a good deal if you have the cash.

Why buy in America when richersounds.com seems to have very good deals?
Look there and pick up KEF or Mordaunt Shorts

Do your friend a favor and give him one less thing to lose on a plane.

FYI don't check in speakers. Have them shipped via UPS or FedEX. Theft at airports is very common and stuff gets lost very easily.

I think you should talk to Mike C. He's from the Philippines.

I bet there are some good deals in singapore they are a

kchew@gpacoustics.com.sg

is an email I got for a singapore KEF dealer.

I know the nations are fairly close. But I don't know where in Malaysia you are at.

would probably be a much better place for you to go.;)

It looks dead actually :-(

Your welcome. I suggest you go there and see if you can't find a local dealer.

if you shop around you can defiantly find it cheaper... i bought mine 3 years ago on audiogon for 175 shipped (used) and it still preforms perfectly...
