Advent 300 and Yamaha RX-V1300 - preamp out, tape out, etc.

Greetings everyone! I'm an aspiring audioholic and I turn to you all for help...

I just dug out an old Advent 300 receiver that seems to be in pretty good shape. All I've done so far is test its tuner and A speaker outputs, the former of which seems to work flawlessly while the latter gives me output on only one channel... :/

But no matter! I have a Yamaha RX-V1300 that's currently my main squeeze, so I don't really need the Advent's amplifier. What I do want to use the Advent for, however, is my turntable. Word has it the Advent rocks one of the better phono circuits ever made. Not sure if it's miles ahead of the phono input on my Yamaha, but I've been thinking of adding a phono preamp to my setup anyways for other reasons, so hey, why not give it a shot.

But my question is this: what's the best way to match up the Advent's outputs with my Yamaha's inputs? The Advent has two of 'em -- one's a "preamp out" and the other's a "tape out" -- and according to the specifications, the two put out a pretty different signal (100 mV / 600 Ohms for the tape out, 1.0 V / 3500 Ohms for the preamp out).

So, I plug in the Advent and run the record player's RCAs to the Advent's phono input -- check. Then what? What would you all recommend? What's the primary difference between the Advent's "preamp out" and its "tape out," and when / where might I want to use each one? And am I going to overload any of my Yamaha's inputs if I route the Advent's preamp out to 'em?

Any and all help you can offer would be much appreciated. Cheers!!

Use the Advent’s Tape Outputs. It’s a constant-level signal, which is what you want – i.e., the Advent’s volume control won’t change the signal level going to the Yamaha.

In contrast, the Pre-out is variable. And not only that it’s a higher voltage, designed to drive an outboard amplifier. So using it could make the Yamaha’s inputs clip.
