adjusting phase

I have an Energy esw - m6 sub and am wondering how to adjust the phase.
The unit came set at zero and I have only played with the phase a little, I
didn't hear it making much of a difference.
The volume and low pass filter were easy to find a good level.

To adjust it best, you would need an SPL meter to take readings from your listening position to determine the best blend and output, but unless you have the sub located far from the mains, zero is probably correct.

I have a 12 foot cable and could get away with a 6 ft cable.
Should I buy a 6 ft cable?

No, won't make any difference, so no need to spend the extra $$. If it being that long forces you to run it close to power cables it might be worth it; if not, then don't worry about it
