Adding second pair for rear surround

Since I have some speaker cable, interconnects and a pair of Minimus 7 ( Radio Shack ) speakers lying around it occured to me that perhaps there is the possibility of using the 5 channel amp. that is currently only running a pair of Paradigm Atoms as rears to also run another pair - the 7s - by using two splitters for the interconnects ( from the processor ) and putting the signal through the 5 channel amp's front channels. One should then have the rear surround signal going to the 2 pairs. I thought it would be ok to mount the 7s facing 90 degrees from the Atoms which are at the edge of the wall - basically at the same corners but firing towards the rear wall. The Atoms are facing each other in the standard 5.1 setup. Sort of a variation on a dipole arrangement. I'm sure it would allow for a bit more dispersion. Any thoughts - besides the fact that I might have too much time on my hands? I have two other amps running the center and fronts so hopefully the 5 channel can be put to further use in this manner.

.....BigScreem, here's the best I can tell you from your details.....you have a 5 channel surround receiver that is receiving your source signals....you are outputting the prepared-to-be-amplified source signals from the pre-amp section to slave amps for the center and front speakers you have set up....the only thing the amp sections of your 5.1 are pushing is a pair of rears and you are considering splitting the signal somehow to add a pair of speakers somewhere....if this is not correct so far, jump in there, haha....a receiver has three sections....a stereo tuner, a stereo pre-amp/processor, and let's not get hung up on the term processor at the surround receiver's level, and thirdly, stereo amp sections....we need to start thinking in those three assignments as to the path of source signals....if I am correct so far on how you have your system set up, you are only taxing the receiver's amp sections with one pair of rear speakers....you still have the option of wiring speakers to the receiver's amplifiers' output terminals for mains....wow, two possessives in a row, receiver's amplifies' output terminals, haha....anyhow, wire the Minimus 7's off the mains' output terminal posts on the back of the 5.1 receiver which from your description are not being used.....use the interconnects and splitters for canon fodder to be fired at the enemy coming over a closeby hill, haha.....

Guess I should clarify that it is a power amp with the 5.1 output handled by a seperate Denon processor ( AVD 2000 ). So this 5 channel amp has unused front and centre channel outputs. Just thought I would use the L&R front to output to another pair as mentioned previously. The Minmus 7's are actually pretty decent for what they are and one does not need to go overboard when using speakers for the rears anyway. Guess I like experimenting!

....."""BRAVO"""", BigScreen....but forget the processing....we are talking about an outputted from the stereo pre-amp SECTIONS, two, millivolted SIGNALS being AMPLIFIED....source to pre-amplification to amplification with any processing done between the source and Pre-amp sections, I suspect....do you or do you not have empty posts for mains on your surround receiver?....I would have to be there to see what you have, but it sounds like the processor is enriching the signal to the "in's" of the surround receiver's pre-amp sections so your present rears run off the receiver's amp sections would receive the effects of the Denon processor you have....along with the Minimus 7's you are about to add.....by all means respond if you need to and we'll look at details presented again....happy listening.....
