Are you unhappy with the sound you are getting or just looking to tweak?

Only if you use external power amps.

HT receivers are totally different creatures from the old stereo units you are probably used to.

You need to connect it between the preamp outputs and the main amp inputs.

How many channels do you want to eq? Most likely the equalizers you are thinking of are only two channel units, and HT entails at least five, maybe more, channels.

Or, if you want to use it with only one analog source, say a CD player's analog output, you could connect it between the CD player andthe receiver's input.

The latter of Mark's suggestions is what I have done. Between the DVD player and analog inputs of the receiver.

A word of caution however; I use the EQ only in Pure Direct mode where the internal EQ of the receiver is disabled. Using both the external and internal EQs will most likely yield some pretty crappy sound.

Your denon has a pretty sophistocated Parametric EQ feature. It will automatically perform the PEQ based on mic readings from several locations and I think you can manually adjust the settings.

Thanks jc; but tell me what is the best mode to play my music in as opposed to watching dvd's?

I use Direct Stereo with my Yamaha. I would recommend using a 2-channel stereo mode with the Denon as well for music listening, I'm sure there is more than one but if you want to utilize the built in EQ you probably won't want to use Direct because I think it bypasses it. I may be wrong about that but you should be able to find more details in the owners manual, either that or somebody with experience with that particular unit will likely answer that in no time.
