Adding a Sub

I am new to the forum (posting anyways) and wanted to thank everyone for the great information I have received. That being said.....

I am looking to add a sub to my Home Theater System. I currently have...

Pinoneer 1019 AH/K receiver
Polk Monitor 70 Fronts
Polk CS2 Center
Random rears but they sound great

I was looking to add the Polk PSW110 sub. Advice on the sub is welcomed but my real question is will I need to adjust what frequencies go to what speakers if I add the sub. Therefore preventing the low frequencies from going to the fronts and of course instead go to the sub.
How do I do this if so? Is that what a crossover is for? Maybe I have one in my receiver?

After that, choose a different sub and we can go from there.

Yes that receiver has a crossover built into it. The receiver should have a LFE or Sub output (single RCA) that goes to the sub. You connect your speakers as normal directly to the receiver but you have to set them to Small in the receiver's speaker configuration in order for the receiver to utilize it's crossover which will send the appropriate sounds to the sub and other speakers.

Read the thread. Although the "psw10" and "psw110" appear to be significantly different, I can see Polk may not be the best sub company in general (especially at the low end).

Thanks again for the info about the crossover and the "small" setting. I will look for that when I end up getting a sub and it hooked up.

I'd love to see head-2-head comparision between that, the EMP ES10i, Aperion 8d, HSU STFU, and the ED a2-300

Is that the new model they're introducing soon? Seems like a potentially off-putting name for a product, but I guess in business sometimes you have to take risks, so I say good for Hsu for being bold!

I'm just curious if you've watched their installation video? Strange phase switch instructions. Only use it if you have two subs? And then set one to 0 and the other to 180? Just a bit unusual.

Other than that it looks like it might be an okay budget sub.

yeah, I saw the thread for it over at AVS and it looked like a sweet bang-for-buck. As I said earlier, I'd love to see how it compares with those other subs I listed.
