Adding a powered subwoofer to an existing DVD/CD/Audio set-up (or something like that.....

Hey everyone!

New here and I am terrible with trying to figure out all the connections with my home theater system. I'll start with the basics, I had a Panasonic Viera 50 inch plasma TV which I mated with the Panasonic SC-PT670 DVD Home Theater System - 5 Disc Changer, 1000W, 1080p Up-Conversion, Integrated iPod Dock. This worked quite well as the two components "recognized" themselves and add an HDMI cable, digital audio cable and speaker wires I was up an running without too much trouble.

Now, of course I wanted more bass so I managed to come across a Polk Audio PSW10 - 10 inch powered subwoofer.

I also moved up to a Sharp - AQUOS - 60" Class - LED - 1080p - 120Hz - HDTV (couldn't beat it for the prices on sale)

So, the Panasonic SC-PT670 only has speaker wire outputs from the back to the subwoofer, center channel and the two front channels. The rear channels are wireless. They are even color coded for idiots like me.

I read the instructions that came with the PSW10 and it gave 3 possible ways to hook up. Since the SC-PT670 did not have a "sub-out" connection i went with running the speaker wires from the receiver to the sub and from the sub then out to the speakers. This sounded horrible and produced almost no sound or bass from the sub (yes it was plugged in). I was very careful to make sure the polarity was correct on all the speaker wires.

Can anyone help me devise a set up that would work with this? I could just go out and get a nice receiver but I like the 5 disc changer, Ipod dock, etc of the SC-PT670. Is it even possible? I can post pictures later of the back of each unit if it helps and I will literally follow your instructions to the letter. Thank you for taking the time to read and possibly help!

Cheers!

Derek

Re: Adding a powered subwoofdio set- t

According to the owner's manual ,that should have worked
..if you connected everything properly.
It's very important everything was turned off during connection...very easy to blow something ,i'd imagine.
So something isn't working correctly ...is the sub actually doing anything at all ?

Tbh,.. your not going to be able to do anything with your
Receiver/multiplayer.....
Is doesnt have any connections and doesnt have enough power(ignoring the massively optimistic 1000watt claim) to run decent speaker's.
Although you should in theory be able to do what your trying to do...
But your receiver thing and spkrs are an unsurmountable
Object to decent sound....
That's the problem with home theatre in a box....it's the easy/quick option ,but you have to Bin it when you want to upgrade..

Thank you Twoeyedbob for your reply.
I had the sub plugged in but the switch on the back set to "off", the surrond system was on however as I was trying to keep an ear to the speakers as I reconnected to make sure that they were in fact still working. One interesting item of note was that when I had everything hooked up my front left channel (speaker) worked but the Right and center speaker stopped working. The sub only produced minimal sound with a little bass as if it was operating on 5 watts of power or something like that.

upon removing the PSW10 sub, reconnecting all the wires and reattaching the factory sub the center channel speaker still does not function now.
