Hello,
I currently have one HSU VTF-3 MK5. I want to add a 2nd sub to my living room. I have a few questions...
1. Do I need a sub equal in size to get the benefit of a 2nd sub?
2. Can I mix Brands?
3. Do I have to match ported vs sealed?

Thanks in advance!

Just easier to integrate an identical sub. Why hesitate in getting another VTF3? You'll always be limited by the lesser sub. You can mix brands, but if they at least have similar response would be better...and mixing ported and sealed can be hard to get similar response with....

I have size restrictions if I want to add a 2nd sub unfortunately.

Have you measured the in room response at the LP? If you only care about one seat, and have enough output, you might not gain much. I am of course an advocate of multiple subs, but mixing different types and sizes can really make for a mell of a hess. And just placing them randomly is no guarantee to better performance. You might end up worse. Whether or not you have one or six subwoofers, imo it’s always worth having a umik-1 and rew to see what’s really going on.

I was also thinking maybe tactile transducers in the furniture might be in order if space is at a premium....
