Adcom GFA 5800 250 Watt Nelson Pass Design Amplifier

For sale: Adcom GFA 5800 250 watt Nelson Pass designed amplifier.

I am the original owner of this amplifier which has been a work horse for me for many years. I purchased this amplifier from Alma’s HiFi in Bloomfield, Michigan. Unfortunately that store is no longer in business. I still have the original receipt from 1992 which states that this amplifier cost me $1275, which back at that time made me sweat bullets over the amount of money I was spending as a recent college graduate.

This amplifier has lived its life running various sets of speakers from Advents, to Definitive Technology BP something or another, to Vandersteen 2Ce, to my current Martin Logan Ascents all with success. It’s RCA and XLR inputs are switchable from the rear and I have used both. I do not ever recall having the clipping lights come on. I do not listen at those kinds of levels.

This amplifier is clean without any noticeable marks/scratches. The only thing someone might complain about is the slight transformer hum that occurs when turning the amplifier on. It immediately goes away.

The top of this amp has never been removed except for the pictures I took just recently.

It will ship with a standard power cord not the SignalCable cord shown in the pictures. I even have all 8 of the rubber plugs that cover the rack mount holes.

Why am I selling it? I have caught the tube bug after so many years of solid state power.

This amplifier is heavy; something like 57lbs on its own, so shipping will be pricey. It will also ship in the original box that I still have.

I am not desperate to get rid of this beast, so please no low ball offers.

I will not ship this internationally except to Canada.

Now that we have your address, can't we just come over and take it? What hours are you away from home:D?

You can go to that address, however, that was back in 1995. You'll surprise some family, but it won't be mine...:p

By the way, buy my amp....

You have to excuse me because I am getting up there in age, but I can't find your asking price.

One thing I noticed on that bill is that you did not pay any tax on that amp. It just happens that I work for the IRS, it's the first think I look for.
