My dad passed away recently and he was really into home theater. He had a lot of gear. He got me into it growing up. We have been sorting out his things and I've set up another home theater in my spare room with some of my dads stuff. One of the things I need help with is he had an Adcom gfa 5300 amp. It was in the back of his closest in a box. It looks new. I don't know if I need it or should I sell it or even what it's worth? Any help is appreciated.

You'd have to give more info.
What does it do or not do?

Adcom's have a great reputation, however, the one you have is not one of their premium models. At 80W into 8 ohms and 125 into 4, it is at or below many mid-level AVR's.
So for sale, you have name-brand working for you, but mediocrity of performance working against you.
You can check pricing on ebay for a rough value (if it worked).

I would expect the Adcom to be a better amp what’s in the average AVR, since it’s stable at 4-ohms and won’t suffer any “power sag” when the other channels are cranking. It would be a nice addition to someone who’s HT had mains that are a demanding load.

Hard to say what it’s worth. Reviewing ebay’s completed listings they’ve recently sold between $60-140. There seems to be no connection between the condition and selling price. If yours is working and in primo condition, I’d list it at $120, and be sure and mention it’s “as new.” That’ll give you a better chance of getting top dollar.
