Activating the audio for HDMI on denon AVR-688

Hey, I am hoping someone might know how to do this

I have a Denon AVR-688 which only accepts video with HDMI. I sent Denon an email about a possible FW upgrade that would allow audio as well, but they said that it was a hardware limitation.

So I am wondering if anyone would know how to fix this "hardware limitation" so I could get audio as well. I am kinda handy and not too worried about the receiver/warranty (if there is any left). Or am I just going to have to suck it up and get another receiver Although getting new gear is always good
