Acoustech questions

I am a newbie so please bear with me. I am looking to upgrade my current Onkyo HTIB set up. I have listened to several speakers over the last few days and I really like the way the Klipsch Reference line sounds. That being said, I am a bargain hunter which has lead me to the BIC Acoustechs. They supposedly sound a lot like the Klipsch due to the horn tweeters. Will any Acoustech owners chime in and let me know if they really do sound like the Klipsch? Also, my main concern is that the one professional review out there mentions that the towers weigh 26lbs. each. Isn't that awfully light for a tower speaker? Are they really that light, or was it a misprint? Any help would be appreciated.

the BIC towers I could find have a shipping weight of 40 pounds, so they would probably run about 35 out of the box. They have two active woofers, two passives, and a small tweeter.

To give a comparison, my Infinity Alpha 50's weigh about 55 pounds with a tweeter, mid, and two woofers. I wouldn't worry too much about the weight, as long as they are not directly next to a wall and you have a decent sub.

I've read alot of good things about the BIC products and they seem to be one of the better affordable speakers currently on the market.

Another decent choice is the Athena speakers, which BestBuy seems to be in a hurry to get rid of. You can get the tower FS-1's from their website for $ 97 each and the surrounds for less than $ 80 a pair. They claim to be sold out on the center channels, but you might find one at your local store.

Venturi and Acoustech Cinema Series

Leprkon is right. Don't worry about the weight. My towers are 66 lbs. each with one tweeter, a large midrange, and two 7" woofers. They won't play half as loud as the BIC's at the same volume. BIC's work great with entry and mid level receivers because of the high sensitivity.

The towers you are looking at are BIC Acoustech's. The other line BIC sells are Venturi. The difference is the Acoustech's compete with the Klipsch, as they both feature horn tweeters. The Acoustech line is specifically made for home theater, but also sounds great with music. They refer to them as "Cinema Series." They are fairly new, and have a huge following. Just do a google search on them. The older, tried and true line is the Venturi. They make a wonderful center channel for under $120 with dual 6.5" woofers and a soft dome tweeter that sells like hotcakes. The Acoustech center, I've heard, sounds just as good, but with a horn instead of a dome tweeter.

I have the Acoustech speakers (3 fronts) powered by a Pioneer Elite 54TX and (2) IB15 subs in the wall of my family room.

I had Klipsch RF-35, RC-35 speakers as the three fronts on my system. They imaged like shait and had a horrible sound stage. I dropped the Acoustech speaks in their place and haven't looked back. They do quite well for home theater and 2-channel audio listening.

Edit: the front L/R speakers weigh more than 26 Lbs. They actually come nicely packed - I wish Klipsch could take a few lessons on packaging their speakers from BIC.

Subwoofer?

Thanks for the replies. I feel better about my pending purchase. Any comments on the Acoustech Subwoofer? My room is 17X17 and it is open to the rear (kitchen) and open to the right (dining room). In other words, lots of volume to fill. Any thoughts on weather I should just stick with the Acoustech 12" or spend a few more $ and go with the SVS PB10? I am not getting the whole Acoustech package anyway because I already have built in surrounds in my ceiling. Thanks again for all the great comments.
