Accelerometer & bike "brake" lights

I'm helping my girlfriends little brother make a street chopper bike. It's like a chopper motorcycle but a bike instead, so it has a long front fork and so forth. He is doing most of the work, I've just welded some parts for him.

But, he asked me the other day about making it have brake lights. So when he slows down, the lights flash on like a motorcycle or car.

I was thinking maybe a accelerometer attached to some LED lights with a small battery?

I know there are some handy people on here, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? I don't know much about electronics, so, I'd look for a kit or something.

What do you guys think? I Google'd around but haven't found much other than this: http://gizmodo.com/5382522/clever-led-bike-light-has-an-accelerometer-to-sense-when-you-brake ... which I'd rather be able to choose the LED to use ...

I would mount a normally open switch by a brake caliper, so that when the caliper moved in the contacts would close and the break light would come on.

Keep it simple.

It's a single speed with a really steep gear (its a show bike, not really meant to ride it), so slowing down normally just means not pedaling... thats why I was thinking the accelerometer if it was possible..

Fabricate a bracket to mount it on, that attaches to the frame near a brake fork.
