Anyone ever seen one of these? I've got a power wallplate in my equipment closet connected to a power wallplate near my projector. It's just a dummy outlet (in-wall extension cord basically). I need a cable with a male end (to connect to the surge suppressor) and another male end to plug into my dummy outlet.

Can't seem to find one on-line anywhere. Can I make this? Any help?

thanks,
cj

I looked in my electronics supplier catalogs (where I can find nearly any cable) and they do not have anything like that. Its something you will have to custom make yourself. It could also be a very dangerous thing to have around the house with kids, and or idiots.

You can just go buy a couple replacement cords at a hardware store and splice them together. They will be about 6 foot in length with just a 3 prong male plug on one end. The best way would be to solder them, then heatshrink tube the individual joints, then heatshrink the whole thing. You could also use butt connectors. Do not just strip the wire and twist the two bare wires together and put electrical tape over it though. Very dangerous.

Once you have it built make sure you always plug the surge protector end in last! Might seem obvious but we all make mistakes.

Might be safer to replace the outlet with a male recessed plate if it is indeed the other end of the projector, needing power, not giving it. Sure would be safer.

The item you're looking for is a recipe for disaster - could possibly qualify you for the "Darwin Awards" It's easy enough to make, but I'd sure be leery of having a thing like that around the house. :(

Doesn't somebody make a coupler type of adapter that is female on both sides to join two extensions cords? There must be something like that that could be used to simply join two small extension cords.

Does not exist because it does not meet any code requirements (U.L., NEMA or Local code).

Any MFg. that would manufacture would open themselves to being sued (think Mickey D's had a loss over aa cup of coffee that was to warm....)

Change the wall plate.

After Hurricane Wilma, I made a Male x male adapter to run from my Generator to 1 circut in the hose to run the Refrig., A few lites, TV and fan. I pulled the main fuse from the outside disconnect to keep from backfeeding the power grid and to keep the house from being energized when the Power Company finally got power restored. I Tye wrapped the HOT male plug to the female recepticale to keep it from being pulled out and a HOT plug from landing on anyone or anything (not only shock issue but a fire issue).

After 21 days when power was finally restored, The first thing I did was pull the plug and CUT OFF the bastard end. Emergency use is one thing. Stupidity is another. Do it right for safety sake.

Power wiring

Panamax also has some boxes designed to work with their power centers, but they are spendy.

That outlet should work fine.
Make sure you use standard romex between the projector outlet and the male box you link and get an extnension cord with a gauge that is comparable to the power cord that came with the projector.
