I am about to pull the plug and buy all the equipment for my new home theater. I always find it hard to make decisions like this without validating from others. HAHA. If anyone has any suggestions / advice it would be greatly appreciated. I want to get something that will last me for awhile and not make me want to upgrade. I will be using it for 95% movies / video games and 5% music.

I dont think pulling the plug is the right phrase you want to use lol. Pulling the plug usually means euthanasia. But on the other hand, your speaker selections look good. Hopefully someone who has heard them first hand can chime in.

Just to offer alternative advice, I noticed that the Axioms you selected have differing ohm ratings which would give the onkyo an uneven load. Not a huge deal or anything, but since Onkyos tend to run warm, the channels that have the 6 ohm loads may get warmer than the others.

I have the Onkyo 876, and it sounds really good with Paradigm monitors, but that may end up costing you more.

Other than maybe substituting a refurbished Onkyo TX-NR1007 for just a few bucks more I can't think of a thing to change.

What receiver would you recommend instead?

Man as I sit here and wonder I feel like I am going over the top with this purchase. This is the room and space I'm working with. Will that axiom be overkill with the space I'm looking at?

Do you feel lucky?

Well, do you.....?:D

That's what comes to my mind regarding ONKYO.

Do more research before pulling the trigger on all the areas.:D

I don't understand what you're saying? Onkyo is not good? What should I research more?

Personally, I would never buy Onkyo.

This is based on a lot of people complaining about Onkyo reliablity. I hear it from friends and co-workers and I read about it on forums everywhere.

Of course, not ALL Onkyo are bad.

I think many Onkyo products may last plenty of years.

That is why I said, "Do you feel lucky?":D

Speakers

Have you listened to Axiom speakers?

Just make sure any speakers you buy have a good 30-day return policy regardless of BRAND.

Aperion & NHT are 2 companies that offer a free 30-day return policy. There may be others.

Mostly reserve power. Look at the weight difference between the 807 and the 1007. Most of that is beefier amp and powersupply sections.

As far as Onkyo reliability in my opinion most of the talk is FUD - but two models have in very rare cases shown serious problems. Those are the HT-RC180 and the TX-SR806. I would stay far-far-far away from those two. When Onkyo went from the 805 to the 806 the weight dropped a lot. Rumors claim that the formerly tank like power supply section was cheapened in exchange for more more bells and whistles and there were scattered and very rare reports of fires in those two near identical models only. Not enough to generate a recall but enough to worry me. I have not heard of any problems on the other members of the XX6 models or any of the following year's XX7 line but I'm still leery of the 807.

The other thing to keep in mind is that all Onkyos run extra warm - feeding rumors. The reality is that they put serious powersupply sections and amplifiers in their products and those generate heat. But that means that you do need to give them room to breath. 2" above and a good air flow around them. I run my TX-NR906 16 hours a day she works great. :D
