About to build my new sub boxes!

As most of you know, my ugly old sub boxes didn't fit my replacement 12" speakers, so building better boxes is a better idea than toiling long and hard to try to get the old ones to work.

With new boxes, I get to increase the volume to better match the new drivers, and increase the height to place the mini-monitors at the right position for my current furniture.

Here's how my plan is forming:

* 3/4" MDF box core, internally braced with skeletonized 3/4" MDF partition; 3.5 cu ft volume

* 1/2" Walnut front, beveled at side and top to give natural rounded corners; woofer recessed

* 1/4" Walnut plywood on sides, back, and top

* 1.25" diameter chrome plated tiptoe under each corner

* Cherry stain finish

I've actually had good experience in the past making my own laminate boxes. I go heavy on the Elmer's Carpenter's Glue, pile on the weights overnight and I've yet to get any rattles on my first boxes which were cobbled together with sandwiched 1/2" MDF to make 1" panels.

Here's my artist's conception of what my subs will look like with the SB-1 mounted atop as the final 3-way speaker:

Thanks, Anamorphic. I've built many speaker boxes in my time, but this marks the first time I'll actually make an effort to make them "purdy."

Today, a guy at work was talking about how he didn't get to the air show on Sunday because he's straightening out all his wood shop equipment after his move. It turns out he has a table saw with the required 25" rip fence that I happen to need. Score!

I'll keep you posted on my progress when I launch this off paper and into wood.
