AAARRRGGGHHHH My Ipod died/need storage advice

Dag nammit my Ipod died.Sad face on the screen and Apple support says its dead.Well I guess I will get the 160 gig and the Applecare $59 plan.....I can carry my whole collection with me now.I also want to go get a 1TB HD for my backup.My 250g Western Digital is sucking.Any thoughts as to a great portable HD?????

Western Digital makes the best hard drives in my experience, but if you are listening off an external hard drive you will have issues. I've never found a hard drive that stayed connected to a computer's USB port without skipping a beat and I've tried Maxtor's, Iomega's and even the one I built. The issues do tend to be windows related though. What version of Windows are you using?

100% of my music is stored on a 1TB Fantom Drive external. My 300+ gig music collection (much of which is FLAC, about 20 megs a song) plays seamlessly, even on shuffle mode. It's usb 2.0. I've also got this computer hooked into my tv, and i regularly stream 12 gig mkv files directly from the HD to my television, and it rarely skips a beat.

Why do you want a portable hard drive? If the disk is for your backup, you don't want to move it around, as you'll likely damage the drive in transit.

For external drives, I prefer the Seagates. Most of the externals should be able to be made to work with Macs too or have a model that is.

While WD makes good drives, their externals have tended to have a high failure rate.

He's a sound guy, so he is on the road a lot. My guess would be to have it with him while traveling?

You are correct John thanks man.....I just bought a Seagate 1tb firewire esata version.

I would have gone western digital, the Black is a solid unit. Props on E-SATA though.
