First id like to start with im an amateur in the audiophile world. My system is pretty outdated and im strarting to upgrade slowly but surely.

Currently i have a 15 year ish Denon that has been bulletproof. I've had sonys, and yamahas over the years and have stopped working in a short time, so now im kind partial to denon, but open minded to other flavors as well. Also was currious about Emotiva, (specs looked good for the money) but didn't know about quality.

Current setup. Denon AVR-2310, Tekton Design 8" towers, Adrendal 1723 center, SVS 13 sealed sub

I plan on getting Arendal 1723 towers make full set this year as well. Maybe 2 Arendal rears down the road for a 5.1 setup.

Anyways i know everyone has a brand their patial too over the other, but just wanted some options and recommendations.

Thanks

If I were in your shoes, I would stick with Denon. You have been satisfied with that brand and their receivers use Audyssey for acoustic room correction which is superior to Yamaha's YPAO.

As for Emotiva, I would not purchase any of their products based on the poor reliability of some of their products, and failure to provide support on products after expiry of the warranty period.

If it ain't broke don't fix it...replace it :)

If you like Denon, I would personally stick with Denon. They make good units for the $ and they measure well. I tend to stick with brands I like.

I stick with Denon, Marantz, and Yamaha for software and hardware support and reliability. I think Yamaha wins on software. I've also seen a few Denon units fail over the years where my Yamahas have held up. Go figure. Opposite of you. But, I still am really happy with Denon, Marantz, and Yamaha as my core products to deliver to customers. I avoid other brands pretty much entirely, though I've run into Sony, Pioneer, and Onkyo over the years. Not bad, but not the same consistency in quality I've seen from the big three (two?).

There are better models within Denon, and if you want to go to separates, Marantz is a heck of a solid path.

Nice.. yeah thought about external amp down the road.. it alsways smells like my current denon is on fire yet continues to work. Appreciate the insight. Marantz looks attractive,, just hate the small ridiculous screen on rx. I know thats kind of a trademark.. but not a usful one. Also in know most stuff is done on tv screen anyways... but sometimes its nice to see settings at a glance.

Anthem. There is a review of them on this site that was very good. It is also what I have for A/V purposes which is tied into my Michi pre and amp.

Marantz and Denon being sister companies share quite a bit, more similar than different. They tend to market Marantz at a higher price in the US, tho. If you get an avr with a full set of pre-outs you can use external amps with it (starts with the Denon X3xxx and up series). I agree about the porthole on the Marantz, too, but then I've always found a better deal on Denon for the same/similar feature set. I have three Denons myself.

Might try zkelectronics for comparisons of feature sets between avrs....

With regard to external amplification, your AVR-2310 doesn't have pre-outs allowing you to use external amps. You would need a new AVR.

Most people don't need external amplification. Also, some questions need to be answered before committing to the expense of getting additional power amps. The distance of your listening position from the front speakers, the sensitivity of these speakers and how loud you like to listen to your music and movie audio content.

Here is a good tool for verifying your power needs:

Nice to see another 2310 owner. :) I still use a 2310ci and it also has been bullet proof. One thing I will miss is the great connectivity that the 2310 offers, as I still have legacy source components that benefit from its upscaling. New AVRs drop the S-VHS and component inputs unless you move up to some of the higher tier models. Would be nice if the 2310 had pre-outs but the 105W per channel is enough for most and certainly for my listening distance.

I will primarily have 3 reasons for upgrading. One is the move from 1080p to 4k as most TVs are now 4k and 4k content is becoming more common. Number 2 is the addition of E-ARC to the HDMI output which allows the connection of 4k devices to the TV and feeding audio to the AVR. Lastly is the addition of ATMOS as that is the future for surround home theatre.

Having been active on the forums for a couple of years now I will likely stick with Denon. They offer a good balance between cost and features and reliability appears to be as good or better than others. Second choice would probably be Yamaha.

Yes! It's been a very good avr! I've pushed it over the years.. and had it go into a thermal safety shutdown many times.. and yet she's still going strong. The remote sucks.. its was old school out of date when purchased lol.. like 1970s remote haha. But yeah.. like to get 4 k..and maybe more power. Still trying to decide on external amp.. if I go that route I might get a lesser powered demon and save a little. Appreciate your reply.. definitely will stick to denon brand

The Denon AVRs spec as well as separate pre-amps / processors so many use them even with the intention of a separate amplifier. The added power is mainly needed in the front stage so pre-outs on the AVR and a good 2 or 3 channel amp will usually suffice. The internal amps should be sufficient for the surround channels.

I have had 4 Denons and replace every 4 years as technology changes.
