A/V furniture. Glass, wood, metal, does it matter?

Right now all my A/V gear is on glass shelves, 3/8" thick. open on all sides (except top and bottom, but space for air circulation, and turntable on top shelf, nothing above it). Other than aesthetics for A/V applications is one method preferable over others? I did not want cabinets because it's easier to jiggle things around when connecting wires etc. But is the glass creating undesirable resonances, sound waves bouncing off, etc?

I believe there is no difference at all what ever shelf material you are using. Having wood / metal wall or window next to speaker will effect how it reflects the sound how ever.

Equipment needs proper airflow and a stable platform. Beyond that, very little is necessary. If you are happy with your wire management and ventilation then you are good to go. Given a choice of wire management or airflow, pick airflow.
