Another newbie looking for some guidance on A/V connections. Like many others, I am skeptical about the Monster Products sales pitch at CC, BB, etc... My components are as follows:

50" Sony SXRD (Model KDSR50XBR1)
HD Cable Box/DVR
Onkyo 7.1 A/V System (HT-S780)
Sony upconversion DVD Player (Model DVPNS70H)

I need to purchase two (2) HDMI/HDMI cables and two (2) fiber optic audio cables. I read/heard enough to believe that I am best served with online purchase (i.e. haven't found promising alternatives at RadioShack, Target, etc...). Quickly perused BlueJean and Impact Acoustic sites (thanks to the recommendations on this site). Observation is that a $35 6' HMDI cable at Blue Jean seems too good to be true...Impact Acoustics was quite a bit higher. Also, couldn't find the fiber optic cables on the BlueJean site while the Impact Acoustics site had multiple selections.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Blue Jeans doesn't make fiberoptic, only wire based cables, so you may need to go with Impact for the optical and Blue Jeans for the HDMI. I know, then you can't order it all at once, but you'll still save in the end and get quality products.

Thanks. I ordered the HDMI cables. Given your fiber optic cable advice, is there a particular model I should go with and are all of the connectors the same?

Thanks. Information greatly appreciated.

A 6ft HDMI cable is not long that a lower priced one would not do you well, if you want to save some $$. How long is the fiber run? That too should be available for less and not be an issue.

Same length needed for the fiber optic run (i.e. 6'). My components are close together; actually need less, but adding some slack for manuverability.

As I mentioned, have already purchased my HDMI cables (BlueJean) for $32 a pop. Still shudder at the thought of CC trying to sell me Monster THX for $125 per. Not doubting the quality, just the absurdity of the price tag.

Same with that fiber cable. Six feet is nothing to worry about. No need for expensive ones.

Thanks for the advice regarding monoprice. It seems puzzling that they can provide a quality cable for such a low price (6' HDMI $7, Fiber Optic $4, etc...). What gives? Do you have experience with their Fiber Optic cables?:)
