"A" stock vs. "B" stock

I've been shopping around online for a deal on a Crown xls402 amp. Most of the cheapest prices, which hover around 260$-280$, specify the listed product as B stock. This term has been thrown around the forums a few times that I've seen, but what exactly does it mean? Would this amp be of a lesser quality than, say, an "A" stock model? the a stock ones go for about 350-400$ as a reference; is it worth the higher price?

B-stock can be one of a few things.

1)blemished unit
2)overstock
3)cosmetic damage
4)returned unit
5)demo
6)warrantied unit

B stock is second hand...though slightly. They are generally refurbished. Whether a connection, diode, motor, amp, it matters not. Returned, repaired to be as good as new, but perhaps with some minor cosmetic damage. For a $70.00 difference, I would go A stock. $170.00 difference on a $350.00 item? I would definitely go B stock. :)

thanks

B stock doesn't seem like such a big deal to me then.. especially if the warranty is still valid. I appreciate the quick replies as always guys

I purchased some B-stock speakers from SVS with the same trepidation. When I got them in, it was apparent that they were most likely a returned item, as the keyhole mounting slot on the back showed signs of use (slightly scratched), but other than that it was in perfect working condition and looked absolutely brand new.

I would do it again, in a hearbeat - just make sure you get a warranty and/or return policy. ;)

I bought 3 B-Stock subs from SVS, and they looked and operated just like my brand new SVS sub...

B-Stock is a great way to go... :)

I haven't looked too much into them, but I've heard and seen good things about QSC around on the web. That amp looks nice. I'm currently considering Crown xls402, behringer ep1500 and now QSC RMX 1450 to drive a pair of polk Lsi9s. I guess more research and price searching is in order...

Many times B stock are returned items. They may have been defective, or just not the right item. Many times you'll buy the item and it's still defective, and need to send it back to get fixed. If it's under warranty, you may get a "fixed" defective item. So there is a price to pay for B stock. I've purchased B stock items and more than not it's been worth the while.
