Do not want a theater system and do not want AM/FM receiver.

Do want to run DVD/CD, cable box/TV, AppleTV, and play from Itunes library either wirelessly or via HDMI. Have old Sony receiver with just 1 HDMI which I can get rid of and a set of good speakers that I would like to keep.

Is this a realistic system to try to putbtogether? And any thoughts are welcome!

Not sure what you are saying here regarding receivers. An AVR is the obvious tool to accomplish all of this.

Also, what is your budget?

Yep you need an updated receiver with more HDMI ports, hardwired/wireless network, and the AirPlay feature to run iTunes wirelessly. Lots of cool great sounding receivers out there.

You just don't want the am/fm part because you don't use it? You want an av processor without a tuner but with an amp? Have what set of speakers? What's your budget?

Assuming multi-channel and that you don't want to spend a bunch on amps what's wrong with an avr? As was said, seems to be the ideal tool.

Yeah. I don't understand why having an AM/FM feature is a problem. I go months without even noticing/remembering that my AVR has one. Never use it, never a problem that it's there.

Speakers are Sony towers (F5000) I think - max impedence 80.

My budget is low pending a move to a different house in the Spring.

Don't want receiver because I do not us the AM/FM feature, and wife does not like the large size of receivers.

Basically trying to connect cable TV and AppleTV and DVD/CD player with the tower speakers. I think I can run my ITunes wirelessly thru computer setup.

TV is an older 1080 and not enough HDMI inputs for all of the components.

Slimline avr sounds like a good suggestion, receivers are going to be on the large size. Separate processors and amps don't save space, will cost more and may aggravate the WAF even more. What unit were you envisioning?
