Hey guys thanks for any help.

I'm looking to buy a 80w rms 5.1 amp/receiver for my pc. It's not going to have any other inputs other than the optical out from my pc so I dont need all the extra stuff most receivers have nowadays!

The speakers are "Recommended Amplifier Power Range 10 – 80 Watts" so less than 80w will also do. oh and 8Ω impedance (they're JBL control 1x's I think)

I've been looking around for a while now and there doesnt seem to be any market for this kinda gear  especially cheap stuff (~200$).

Thanks
Nick

Nope, that's not how the receiver market works. Receivers are classified in tiers with each successive model offering a few more features and a whole lot more inputs at a higher price. It is not possible to configure a receiver with the bare minimum that you want.

If you just need a few digital inputs and 80 wpc, then you would be perfectly suited with one of the lower numbered models in any manufacturers line - the ones that retail between $300 and $500.

I'll bet you'd be able to find one cheap at a pawn shop or thrift store.

Maybe they call them 'Second Hand Shops' in the UK? Just another name for 'used'.

Thrift store == Goodwill or Salvation Army or something like that. A place that buys at a very low price or accepts free donations and then resells the goods at a reduced price.

There are bargains galore at those kinds of places because often times the person donating/selling and/or the shop itself have no idea what they really have.

Oh right, we only really have charity shops here. things like this dont tend to end up there either, everyone recycles old elctrics nowadays. Wish there was more elctronic stuff over here if im honest, its hard to get half decent stuff for less than a couple of hundred

I would buy a lower line Teac in your case, they should be available in the UK. I don't know if Sherwood is available in the UK. The two are very comparable.
