98% of the countrys populace would say its "high end" compared to what they own (which is most commonly nothing or TV speakers)

The "audiophile" populace of the country would say your system is low-end because it costs less than $20,000

Myself, and most educated consumers who cant afford systems with Krell & Wilson equipment would say you have "mid range" stuff

Probably too general a question, but

Speakers alone don't make a system. If you hook those speakers up to a Yamaha RX-V2500 with a digital eq, you'd probably be blown away. If you used them with Best Buy's "Insignia" receivers (probably rebranded KLH), you'd probably cry. It's all relative. Based on the speakers alone-

I'd say mid range. (Heck, I rate my system as a little better than mid range)

A mid to low end set would be Bose, KLH...

A low end set would be your cheaper HTIB's, Aiwa...

any (avatar) would be highend ......................speakers are everything ..contrary on what others may think, if there was ever a fire in my theater, bed, entertainment room i would surely run out with my speakers , go back in and run out with my rears , go back in and run out with my sub run back in and take my center , if the walls cave in at that point , i would throw my center out of the firy room and happly die knowing i saved my speakers......no wait thats crazy i want to listen more , so i probalby will leave the center or

I'd say they're towards the lower end. Not bad necessarily, just that you could do a lot better. Of course, JMOHO.

The northridge series was designed with the Best Buy customer in mind. A lot of manufacturors have developed such a line because that market is huge. But don't worry, while they don't quite live up to the JBL legacy they are surely nothing to be ashamed of. :)
In the consumer market they are in the upper mid-range
In the custom market they would fall in the lower mid-range.

Why worry about ratings, if it sounds sweet to your ears, thats all that matters, nothing else.

I should add that I don't dislike all JBL products- it's just that the Northridge line does seem to be designed for the BB crowd. The enclosures are kinda cheap looking and don't seem very solid, and to my ears they sound a bit shrill. Probably not at all bad vs the competition in their price range (save the Athena line; it crushes the JBLs, imo).

I do have a pair of JBL HLS-610's connected to a Griffin Powerwave running of the USB output of my PC. They flank the monitor, actually, and I listen to a lot of music at my computer thru them.

Also, the spendier JBLs have been pretty favorably reviewed. So I got no axe to grind with them.

Lastly, Yammie is right- if you like them, that's the main thing. I've only heard them in a retail setting. I imagine they sound a lot better in your home rig. :)

WOW Yamahaluver, there is a name I havent seen in a while. I hope all is well with you my friend.

The reason I was asking is that my annnual HT budget has been composed and I was wondering what to upgrade. Granted my room is rather small maybe 12' square so I am not looking for tower speakers that go to the ceiling, but I have the funds saved up and am looking to upgrade the system. The two things I primarily want to upgrade are the TV and possible the speakers.

I live in Miami Florida and its tough to demo speakers in a retail setting such as a Best Buy or Sound Advice (Tweeter) or one of the pro places. I fee they probably have a major set up behind the walls that would make a pair od sound blaster 3 inch computer speakers sound better than what I own now. So my question would be are there places that will let you demo a set in home in this area that you know of?
