What is your budget ? What equipment do you already have? Bose is overpriced and dollar-for-dollar is sub standard to anything at the same price.

Good Luck!

P.S. - In the past I have owned almost every Bose speaker ! - 901,501,301,101, center, wave radios

no comaprison, Bose is overpriced over marketed garbage, Paradigms are designed and engineered by people who know acoustics and all the other related disciplines in making a good product.

Comparing apples to apples, let's assume that you will be comparing the Bose 5.1 to a Cinema system with a decent budget subwoofer. The Bose satellites will not have enough extension to reach down to the highest frequencies of the sub, leaving a range of musical notes that will not be reproduced...at all. The Bose subwoofer module is not really a subwoofer at all and will not produce any really deep notes. Call it "sizzle and boom".

The Cinema don't really have all that great extension either but I find with my Cinemas that I get pretty good results crossing my subwoofer at 120Hz. Small, on-wall speakers generally have such limitations but as such, the Cinema is one of the better sounding solutions if you need wall mounted speakers. Depending on the price difference between the Bose and the Cinema, you can afford to buy a pretty killer little sub to go with the Cinema for the same or less money, maybe an SVS PB10. The Cinema/SVS combo will kick the living snot out of any Bose system, every time.

Plus, once you buy Bose, there is no upgrade path. You are stuck with whatever you have or replace the whole thing. If you go with the Cinema route, you can upgrade the speakers or sub at your pleasure whenever you can afford to. Bose = NO, not ever.

Definitely go with the Cinema series and the best subwoofer within your budget.

Hello - got cut-off last time. I got this terrific deal from Amazon for $499.00 for Cinema 110CT 5.1 system. My friend told me they are selling it this cheap as no one buys these as everyone buying Bose - which I found to be 1xxx$! I sincerely would like to save the +500$ to buy a good A/V instead. What i narrowed down to - was TX-SR606 from Onkyo available in A4L ; the additional $200 - partially will go in buying good wires, etc. as I found they do make a difference to sound - i.e. crappy wires vs. solid shielded wires. For the Cinema sub-woofer I didn't find any information in the Paradim web-site and the speakers themselves are marked as "Monitor" in the back. For connecting the sub-woofer I intend to use Monsterbass 400 series cables. Maybe - an year from now I might consider purchasing SVS PB10.

O.K. Good solid choice.

No. Go to www.monoprice.com Great quality. Unbelievable prices.

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

No Monster. Not once. Not ever. Monster products have no advantage over any other product on the market and are outrageously expensive for somebody trying to build a system on a budget. Never mind that their corporate practices are despicable and should never be supported with knowledgeable consumers' dollars, their is simply no advantage or value in choosing a Monster product, of any type at any time.

Maybe - an year from now I might consider purchasing SVS PB10.
By avoiding Monster products and using Monoprice for your cable needs, you will be able to buy the PB10 and the Cinema for less than the Bose system. If you still need to save money, choose a Hsu subwoofer, an STF-1 or STF-2, there is value there.

It's done and decided. Absolutely - done - in fact. Cables - too. Went to a local store who told me I ought to have "banana" connections but find out which ones - they can be open or closed. Can ANYONE, for the LIFE of me - let me what on Earth is he speaking about and how it relates to my Onkyo and Cinema speakers? Finally - the sub-woofer as given in Cinema 110CT, there's not a single bit of information available. Any leads?

Hi. In regards to the banana plugs, those are really only for convenience in that they make connecting and disconnecting the speaker wires easier. They neither enhance nor hurt (if attached properly) the audio signal.

Here are some links to examples of open and closed banana plug designs. There are others, but they are the same general philosophy. They go on sale at Monoprice from time to time, and I've purchased the closed design (that I prefer) for $1 a pair on two separate occasions.

Just bought the Onkyo 606 from A4L, waiting eagerly for it to arrive! Hope I have a great system. Now I need a really good BR player.

I know it seems like Bose bashing, but good advice has been given here. If you want the best value for your money, do NOT buy Bose products. I guarantee that, if you fairly compare products side-by-side with other name brands (like Paradigm, PSB, Polk, Def Tech, Axiom, etc.) the Bose will lose every comparison.
