A quick 2.1 to receiver question...

Okay, so here is the deal. I currently have a Sony STR-DE185 receiver hooked up to two analog fisher speakers. Now I just got my second logitech z-2300 system.

The input to the two speakers is just speaker wire, but the z-2300 has a little control module that takes a 3.5mm plug into it, then sends the signal to the amp on the sub for the z-2300 (2.1 system) and has RCA jacks for the 2 satellites.

So my question is whether I can run 2 male RCA plugs from the receiver's audio out jack into a 3.5 and connect it that way. It seems like the logical way. I just tried to plug one of the satellites into it, and it made no sound. So my roommate made a perceptive observation, it will work because the other system from the 'audio out' needs to be powered which it is...

Will this work out for me?

Also, the control module for the z-2300 uses a VGA connection to connect to the sub, and I have a left over z-2300 sub to use. I assume I can just split the VGA connection and run it to both subs (the 'headquarters' for the system) and use one of them only for bass, while the other is connected to the second whole 2.1 system.

Thanks,
Rick

Yes you can, looking at the manual the receiver looks to have one set of audio outputs.

If you want to run both sets of 2300's you would need to split the 3.5 mm connector from the initial Y-cable to each sub.

I have that pretty well figured out, it uses a control module that connects to the sub through a VGA. When I sent back the 2 satellites (blown) they told me to send that back as well. So now it is missing the module for that sub. I'm just going to split the vga from the new module and run it to the second sub, in place of the module that would normally connect to it.

I ended up plugging it in and got it working, it sounds really good!
